Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Max Holloway is still riding high after scoring an all-time knockout win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 a few weeks ago (stay tuned). The “Blessed” Hawaiian secured the BMF title thanks to the win, but is also listed for another shot at featherweight gold against reigning champion Ilia Topuria.
The fight itself will go down in history as a masterclass performance, as Holloway touched Gaethje for every round before the buzzer-beater knockout. But that doesn't mean Gaethje himself hasn't been successful. “The Highlight” saw quite a few heavy low kicks land, bruising Holloway's lead leg. And he certainly landed some clubbing hooks upstairs as well.
One such right hand grabbed Holloway by the skin and momentarily forced him to the floor. Holloway got back to his feet and immediately fought back, but it appeared to be the first knockdown against Holloway in his already legendary career! However, the fight was not officially considered a knockdown as the UFC's statistician is UFCStats.com. do not have Recognizes the exchange as a knockdown.
But even Holloway knew it was a bull, and he admitted as much. “JRE MMA Show”
“It didn’t count as a drop, which is crazy,” Holloway said (via MMA Junkie). “ESPN posts and says as if no matter how many fights I have in the UFC, I still haven't been eliminated. That's bullshit—t. Give it to Justin. Yes, I'll take it.” , you know what I'm saying? But I don't want to be the guy who sits here and says that's not the case.”
“Bro, I don't even remember getting that punch,” Holloway continued. “And I sat down and I stood up. I was like, 'What, what did he just hit me with?' you know what i mean? I thought, “Oh my god!” “That was a good punch,” I thought.
“Then I looked again and he hit me on the top of the dome. I was like, 'Oh my god, brother.' This guy is terrible. As soon as he woke up he was fine and it was like a “boom''. His legs just lose strength. Like, even when he was standing up, I was still there, looking at him. But I don't understand why it didn't count as a drop. He doesn't know what counts as a drop. ”
This is a little reminiscent of when Colby Covington became the first man to take down Kamaru Usman in the second fight… only the UFC statistician said it wasn't a takedown is! MMA is not boxing or wrestling, so the standards for knockdowns and takedowns may differ from the basic sport, but where do the lines lie?
Apparently, even a decorated champion like Holloway isn't a sure thing.

Does Conor McGregor only post sparring clips of him punching opponents who don't look like they're good enough to spar with? yes. Still, no one else moves like “Notorious!”
Tim Elliott has faced some of the all-time greats in flyweight history in 34 professional fights. If he says he's injured and can't fight, we should believe him.
Since 2012, he has only missed one scheduled fight in the UFC. He had surgery for a hematoma in both nostrils and the next day all the packing and stitches and blood clots came out during a pad session. He had to undergo surgery again and have the tooth extracted. I want to fight!

Can Dominick Reyes get back in the win column and get his career back on track?
No, I didn't know! Mark Hunt's abusive copy-pasting becomes even more interesting.

Will you be attending RIZIN next week?
Next Monday, Chihiro Suzuki will defend her RIZIN belt against Masanori Kanehara. With a record of 12-3 and his last two wins coming against Vougal Karamov and Patricio Pitbull, he is becoming one of Rizin's most interesting fighters. pic.twitter.com/Gz8riC0zZg
