Former Florida State University defensive back Renaldo Green was selected in the second round, 64th overall, by the San Francisco 49ers, making him the fourth former Seminole player to be taken in the second round so far in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was the third person to do so. Although a deep draft for a mid-round corner, Green's high-level man coverage ability stood out to some teams.
It was a quiet draft process for Green, with no top-30 visits publicly announced prior to the draft. He performed well at the East-West Shrine Bowl and answered teams' questions about his top-end speed by running the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds at the NFL Combine. Still, he will need to improve his use of his hands to likely catch more flags and improve his defense against fade routes in the red zone at the NFL level.
Green held Malik Nabors, the No. 6 overall pick in the first round Thursday night, to just three catches for 28 yards all night, his worst performance of the 2023 season. Any Receiving machine. Green's performance, including the interception, put him firmly on many teams' draft boards. His ranking at the end of the second round was a little higher than expected, but it's still worth picking.
The former three-star prospect has blossomed into Florida State's best cornerback over the past few seasons, performing well and solidifying his side of the field by himself.
The 49ers were in great need of a cornerback last season as they made it to the Super Bowl and won the NFC. Acquiring a talented player like Renaldo Green is a huge boost for that room.
