With the 2024 NBA Playoffs underway, the Detroit Pistons are doing their annual homework on their upcoming draft class. The Pistons are once again in line to acquire the top pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Even if the Pistons acquire the No. 1 pick this year, their potential pick is still up in the air. Without prospects like Victor Wembaneyama in the pool, the prospect rankings fell apart.
In a recently created mock draft, Bleacher Report By Jonathan Wasserman The Pistons acquired the No. 1 pick in the lottery and made a big bet on Perth Wildcats center Alex Sarr.
Reason for selection
“Alex Sarr has 7'1” size, athleticism and convertible defense that creates a high floor, plus flashes of shooting potential and ball handling that hint at an offensive turnaround and big man opportunities. ” would make a strong case for Detroit to play power forward.
Zachary Lizacher would be the easiest to slide into Detroit's lineup, but his limited creativity feels like a problem for a winger, and his current shooting slump belies his supposed basic skills. May raise questions. ”
In today's NBA, centers tend to be more versatile, capable of extending the floor offensively and guarding multiple positions on opposite sides of the floor.
Sarr fits that profile, but he will still have a lot of work to do when he reaches the next level.
In the NBL, Sarr has experience in 24 regular season games. This past season, he averaged 17 minutes on the floor. He knocked down 60 percent of his two shots and averaged about 30 percent from beyond the arc on his two attempts per game.
Offensively, Sarr scored 10 points per game. Defensively, he blocked nearly two shots per game and grabbed four rebounds per outing.
The Pistons are garnering a lot of interest in the former Overtime Elite talent as well as international draft candidates. With experience at both stages, Sarr is definitely a name to keep an eye on as a potential pick for the Pistons when the draft begins.
