Defensive tackle Brandon Lane has agreed to join the Spartans from Stephen F. Austin, ESPN reported. He has two years of eligibility left.
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound native of Kansas City, Missouri, spent the past two seasons with the Lumberjacks and finished 2023 with 44 tackles (6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 tackles for loss) in 11 games. He appeared in seven games in 2022, finishing with 11 stops, 2.5 stops, and one sack.

Lane began his career at South Dakota State University, appearing in four games during the 2021 two-season (due to the coronavirus pandemic) in the Football Championship Subdivision. He played in one game during the spring season and recorded one tackle in three games while redshirting that fall. (The player who participated in the 2021 spring season received an additional year of eligibility due to the NCAA waiver.)
MSU lost starting defensive tackles Simeon Burrow and Derrick Harmon to the transfer portal this week, as well as redshirt defensive ends Andrew DePepe and Derrick Harmon. New coach Jonathan Smith added sixth-year transfers D'Quan Douce (Georgia Tech) and Quindarius Dunnigan (Middle Tennessee State). The Spartans also return sixth-year starter Maverick Hansen.
