Jamahal Hill is eager to make a comeback against UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.
Hill (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) was knocked out by Pereira in round one of the UFC 300 headliner. After a careless low blow from Hill, Pereira shook off referee Herb Dean and allowed the match to continue. Hill was taken down in the first exchange and was blown out a bit on the restart.
Regardless of whether Pereira (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) is still a champion, Hill's goal is to get a rematch with “Poitan.”
“Honestly, for me right now it’s not even about the gold strap, it’s about getting back to that fight,” Hill told The Schmo. “I want to fight Alex again, because of the story and everything surrounding it. I know what I felt there, and when I step out there again, I don't know what the timing actually is. I know that I might be defeated, so I just want to play.”
Hill has already booked his next fight. The former champion said he signed a deal to fight Khalil Rountree (13-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) at UFC 303 on June 29, just three days after his loss to Pereira.
As for Pereira, the champion has expressed interest in a possible move to heavyweight, although top light heavyweight contenders Jiri Prochaska and Magomed Ankalaev have been calling him out. Hill isn't interested in who's next for Pereira, as long as he's in talks to fight Pereira again soon.
“I don't care. All I know is that Jamahal 'Sweet Dreams' Hill is definitely in his future,” Hill said. “Again, I don’t care if I have to do it at the 205 level or heavyweight. He has to see me again. That’s the only fight I care about. ”
