The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team officially wrapped up another banner season last Tuesday night, announcing three program awards at the Bulldogs' annual banquet.
Reese Hunt – Best Player
graduate student Reese Hunt The forward was named the team's Most Valuable Player after leading the Bulldogs with 34 points, including a team-high 18 goals, all season. Her transfer made an immediate impact on her, scoring five points in her first three games wearing her UMD sweater (2G, 3A) and in her debut game against Long Island University on October 6th. Recorded 2 assists. Hunt scored two hat tricks during the season. In an offensive clinic against the University of St. Thomas on February 9 in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, the Bulldogs scored four goals, including a well-deserved hat trick, in a 4-1 victory over the Tommies.
Hunt totaled eight multi-point games, including four with three or more points, and Nelson, a British Columbia native, had three games with four or more points, including three against St. Cloud. Includes a career-best 5 points (1g, 4a) in the game. They will face State University in the opening game of the WCHA playoffs on March 1st. In addition to his four points against UST, Hunt had a natural hat trick against Bemidji State on Jan. 13 and scored four of UMD's seven points against the Beavers. Hunt was named WCHA Forward of the Week twice (February 13). (on November 12th and November 6th), tied for first in the WCHA with two hat tricks of the season. Hunt scored six goals in the win, which tied him for third in the WCHA.
hannah baskin – Breakthrough Player of the Year
junior blue liner hannah baskin This award is presented annually to the student-athlete who has been selected by the coaching staff as UMD's Athlete of the Year and has made the most progress in his or her development as an athlete that year. The Excelsior, Minn., native had an aggressive season off the backline, scoring 18 points, more than any other defenseman, including a career-high five goals and 13 assists. The defenseman had a career-high point performance against BSU on Jan. 13, with a career-best four assists. Baskin was equally impressive defending the puck, stopping a team-high 61 pucks, which tied for eighth-most in the WCHA last season. With 11 games with three or more blocks, including six games with four or more blocks and a six-block effort at the University of Minnesota on Feb. 24, Baskin contributed significantly to UMD's NCAA record-tying all-time record of 13 shutouts in 2023-2024. did. He was part of a penalty kill unit that ranked in the top five in the country for most of the season.
Manon McMahon – Maroon Award and Gold Award
graduate student Manon McMahon Maroon and gold awards were awarded by team vote. This award recognizes the player that the team believes best combines the work ethic, attitude, and team values for the team and the game of hockey. McMahon, who was named the UMD Athletic Department's Senior Female Athlete of the Year by her fellow student-athletes on campus Monday night, has never missed a game during her college career and has played in a program record 173 consecutive games. was established. Her total career games played was the fourth-most of any WCHA player in league history, but McMahon, a member of all four of UMD's most recent NCAA Tournament berths, had two overtime appearances. He scored the winning goal in the game, sending his team to the NCAAs. regional finals this season. McMahon also competed in back-to-back Frozen Fours in 2021 and 2022, finishing as a runner-up at the National Championship in 2022 and finishing her Bulldog career with 87 career points. Last season, McMahon scored a career-high 31 points and matched her career high with 14 points. Also, she scored her four winning goals. This was the most in her five-year career with the Bulldogs, and was matched only by her two-overtime effort in the NCAA. Even more impressive, team captain McMahon also served as chair of UMD's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2023-2024, after serving on the SAAC Leadership Committee the previous year. McMahon was a four-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete at UMD and a former AHCA/Clamped All-American Scholar Athlete.
