On Tuesday, the Scottsbluff boys and girls soccer teams split two games against North Platte.
The men's team needed penalty kicks to defeat the Bulldogs 1-0 on the road after scoreless regulation.
North Platte's girls team won 7-2 at Landers Soccer Complex with two goals from Briley Hanneborg, Clancy Brown and Yana Bourgeois.
“We played well at times, but we just didn't have a complete game,” Bearcats girls coach Chad Larson said. “The energy was great when we first came out. Then once North Platte was neutralized, they slowly took us out of the game plan. They completely threw us off our rhythm and forced us to score. I started deciding.”
After the Bearcats got within one point, the Bulldogs scored the final four goals of the game.
Mariah Russell's goal gave the Bearcats the lead, but North Platte fought back with goals from Brown, Bourgeois and Haneborg to take a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Ella Foote scored off an assist from Nia Hack to make it 3-2 just three minutes into the second half. But the Bulldogs took control from there.
“We came out in the second half and responded to make it 3-2, but then we deviated from our game plan and didn't play like we normally do,” Larson said. “Instead of combining passes, we started doing things we wouldn't normally do, like play dumps and runs. Once we understood our game plan, it made a lot of sense.”
The Scottsbluff boys won the shootout 4-1 with goals from Paxton Dart, Abdul Jallow, Joey Escamilla and Taron McDonald.
JT Painter made two saves in the penalty shootout.
