It was a long offseason for the Louisiana Tech football team, but they finished 3-9 in 2023 after losing their final six games of the season. It was the kind of season where things got worse for more than a few weeks and made us question if we were doing the right thing.
One of the few good things that can come out of a losing season is that it can create an attitude of trying not to let it happen again.
Los Angeles Tech coach Sonny Cumby admitted there was “a lot of frustration for the coaches and players” on Tuesday night when the Bulldogs visited Freedom Fields in Bossier City. “And I think the players we have back are very determined and I think they understand that kind of season. They want to do everything they can to win football games. I think.”

Cambie is still in building mode in Ruston, entering its third season, thanks to the transfer portal that continues to take quality soccer players away from schools like La Polytechnic.
“This time last spring, we had about 32 scholarship students,” Cumbie said. “This year it was just about 62. So when you try to make something, it takes a little bit longer. It takes longer than I would like.”
One redshirt senior the Bulldogs are counting on is linebacker Zach Zimos, a transfer from Arkansas who is adjusting with new defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson.
“Coach Johnson has done a great job allowing us to play very fast,” Jimos said. “It's nice not to think about it too much. We've grown a lot in practice this spring and some of our young players have come a long way. And thanks to our coaching staff, we put me in a position to succeed.”
The Bulldogs will find out who they will have to compete with this fall on Tuesday when the transfer portal closes.
“We'll see how that changes,” Cumbie said. “I hope it's friendly for us. I like our football team. I like the situation they're in and their spirit of determination. I really want to win football games. I think there's a group out there that thinks that's what they've been doing on a daily basis until now, all of June, all of July, all of fall camp. We will respond accordingly.”
