DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls soccer team dominated the game with its offensive pace, shutting out Des Moines East 3-0 on Tuesday at Duke Williams Stadium.
The Bobcats went into halftime with a 2-0 lead on an early Scarlets own goal, followed by an unassisted goal by Gissel Hernandez Ibarra in the 16th minute. Gesell Rivera provided insurance in the second half with a goal in the 65th minute on an assist from Irais Buenrostro.
MHS had 22 shots to East's just six, and Esme Chavez made three saves between the posts for her third shutout of the season.
Marshalltown returns to the homestand on Thursday against Des Moines Hoover to begin a six-game homestand.
Henson Medal, MHS Golf defeats River Hawks
Marshalltown girls golf defeated Mason City 189-227 on Tuesday at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown.
The Bobcats also won individual awards, with Natalie Henson medalist with a 2-over 37 and Gabby Estabrook runner-up with a 44.
Harper Wilson and Emma Clawson rounded out the team's scoring with matching 50 points on the scorecards.
Henson made par except for two bogeys on Nos. 5 and 9. Estabrook ended his round with a birdie on the par-4 ninth.
MHS returns to action Thursday with the 18-hole Linda Bloom Invite, which tees off at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Memorial Course.
