Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has extended his contract until 2027, the club announced on Tuesday.
Emery has overseen a remarkable recovery at the Premier League club, which was on the brink of relegation when he took over last season.
Under the Spanish manager, Villa currently sit fourth in England's top flight and are in contention to qualify for the Champions League. Emery also led his team to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.
Emery signed a contract extension agreed in October 2022, with Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich considering the appointment of a new manager in the summer.
Emery said: “We are having fun working together with the Villa fans, the club owners, the management team and our fantastic players, of whom we are very proud. “I and the football management team…we are committed to implementing the owner's vision. “I'm sharing it,” he said.
Emery took over from Steven Gerrard, who was sacked after winning just four games in 22 league games over two seasons. He left with Villa just above the relegation zone on goal difference.
Emery, who joined from Villarreal, led Villa to a seventh-place finish and qualification for Europe for the first time since 2010. Villa did not say how long his original contract would last when he takes over in 2022.
Emery said on Tuesday: “We must maintain the hard-working spirit, smart decisions and alignment with ownership that we found during this period. Ambition is already the motto of this project and must continue to be. ” he said.
Emery, 52, has won four Europa League trophies, three with Sevilla, one with Villarreal and the French league title with Paris Saint-Germain.
He was the coach at Arsenal in England from 2018 to 2019.
Villa's rise under Emery had led to speculation that he could be targeted in the final stages of the season.
“We are very excited and look forward to joining Unai, co-founder of the English Football League, with a view to returning Aston Villa to historic levels of greatness as they prepare to celebrate their 150th anniversary. “We are currently building a sports management center around this,” the chairman said.
