Heavyweight legend Tyson faces controversial fight with YouTuber Paul in Texas this summer
Mike Tyson is backed by Ryan Garcia to defeat Jake Paul despite being a former YouTube champion.
Heavyweight legend Tyson will face social media star Paul this summer in Texas, despite not having fought professionally in nearly 20 years. His last time in the ring was a bore draw in an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
But Tyson, who will be 58 on fight night, has support from Garcia, an early supporter of Paul, who burst onto the boxing scene after making a name for himself with a viral video.
Garcia, who shocked Devin Haney in New York last weekend, tweeted: “Mike, I love you. You look good. I'm going to your fight and I'll be there. I'll be with you in everything. Just remember, I'm always good, Mike.
Paul and Garcia met while living in Los Angeles, with the latter introducing his new friend to boxing. However, after Paul KO'd Ryan Borland in the first round of their last fight earlier this year, Garcia admitted he regretted their allegiance.
He said: “Okay, it's on. I'm gonna have to do this! I'm gonna be done with this Jake Paul boxing thing. Bring it to Jake, I'm gonna die. Please attack my team.”
“I can't do something this bad. I feel so bad for introducing Jake Paul to boxing. It's a mess. I can't let this happen. I can do it.” I can't, he disrespected my sport. I don't know what you're doing, but Jake, give me a call. ”
Paul didn't hold back and said, “You seem insane, thirsty and desperate. You're saying you're a millionaire just because you had one money fight. If you want to do that. 'For me, fighting is light work, you have no footwork, and as long as I'm in the fight, I'm a better boxer than you. ”
Garcia dominated Haney last weekend at Barclays Center, dropping his rival three times along the way to help him earn points. Garcia weighed three pounds over the light welterweight limit and was ineligible to take Haney's world title shot.
