In-helmet communication, tablet, 2 minute warning. Georgia State and the rest of the college football world will have to adapt. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart talked about the change.
College football will look a little different in 2024. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Committee approved several new rules, including in-helmet communication for the quarterback and one defender, a new two-minute warning and sideline tablets.
“For games involving Football Bowl Subdivision teams, each school will have the option to use coach-to-player communication with one player on the field via the helmet. Coach-to-player communication is turned off when there are 15 seconds left on the play clock or when the ball is snapped. ” – NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Committee
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, who is also co-chair of the Football Rules Committee, talked about the changes inside the helmet last month.
“The goal is to get a little bit closer to what the NFL has been doing to enable communication,” Smart said. “This will allow us to communicate with the quarterback or anyone on the defense and we'll know where it's going.”
This change should be a big advantage for quarterbacks in college football, especially Carson Beck, who will be in Mike Bobo's ear telling him what the defense is doing until 15 seconds left. It will be provided to you.
