Adrien Broner mocked Bill Haney on social media after his son Devin lost to Ryan Garcia last Saturday night. Before the fight, Broner said he would triple his fortune by betting $13 of his fortune for Ryan to win.
After Haney lost to Ryan last night, Bill was nowhere to be seen, leading some fans to suspect that he had disappeared from the grid, hidden in a cabin on the hill and started writing a manifesto. There are some too.
Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) is currently in a hopeless straight after losing, but former four-division world champion Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs) offers to cheer him up. I want to give you some energy. Battle at 147.
Fighting the 34-year-old Broner would allow Haney to get his feet wet at welterweight and slowly work his way up to a new weight class.
That clearly isn't working for Haney at 140, which may be one reason Garcia easily handled him with a 12-round majority decision at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
Haney, 25, looked a little exhausted from losing more than 20 pounds of water weight, down to 140 pounds, and gaining it back quickly overnight.
Anyone who's ever done something like that knows it can be physically exhausting for the next two days.
I think he caught up with Haney last Saturday, but his loss against Ryan showed it was time for him to move up to 147 to make the job of making weight a little easier.
It still won't be easy for Haney as he's coming off 165 pounds, but dropping 25 pounds to get down to 140 won't be as extreme a maneuver as it has been.
“Has anyone seen Bill? Where the hell is Bill? Bill,” Adrien Broner wrote on social media after his son Devin lost to Ryan Garcia last Saturday night in New York.Bill Haney teased.
“No, we know where Devin is. Devin is probably trying to collect his thoughts. He's okay. I know everyone is waiting for my reaction, but… I have to tell you the truth. Devin, you have to fight me now,” Broner said. “You need me now.
“Losses don't define a career. You could still be one of the best in the boxing industry, but you need me now. You need me, so together. Come on. Let's go. Let's fight,” Broner said in a message to Haney.
