RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — richmond kickers They played against Spokane Velocity FC in a men's soccer game on Saturday and lost 2-0. It was a themed night that gave fans the opportunity to meet the Richmond Ivy Women's Soccer Club staff.
On Saturday, April 20th, the Richmond Kickers men's soccer team faced Spokane Velocity FC at their home stadium, City Stadium, at 6 p.m. and lost 0-2.
The theme of the match is “For the W League.” Fans who came to support the match also had the opportunity to meet staff from the newly formed women's soccer team. Richmond Ivy Soccer Club.
8News spoke with Kimmy Cummings, head coach of the Richmond Ivy Soccer Club, about her new team. The first match will be Saturday, May 11th..
“It's a huge honour. I grew up in Richmond. I played football for Destiny when they played at City Stadium, so for me it's a huge honour.” Cummings said. “We’re excited to bring something like the excitement of women’s soccer as a whole back to the area.”
During halftime of the game, It was also announced The National Women's Soccer League will return to Richmond for Summer Cup matches at City Stadium in July.
Richmond Kickers will be participating. Next is the cup match South Carolina will play Greenville Triumph SC at Paladin Stadium on Saturday, April 27th at 7 p.m.
