High school boys and girls soccer head coach
Wellesley High School is seeking both boys and girls head soccer coaches for the fall season, and the job will be part-time and paid with a stipend.
Former boys coach Chris DiCecca, well known to the community through his work with the Wellesley United Soccer Club, was named Weston High School's boys soccer coach earlier this year. DiCecca became Wellesley's coach in 2019.
Steve Beilen was the girls coach at Wellesley High School.
No night games allowed until all preparations are complete
At the Wellesley Athletic Field Task Force meeting on April 12, town and school officials discussed the lighting situation at Honeywell Athletic Field, where all four utility poles are currently up. The installation of equipment and fencing near the home stands has caused some disruption to the track and field events, but the Department of Public Works, Department of Schools and construction contractors are working to resolve the issue.
Some task force members are hoping to hold practices and games under lights this spring in preparation for a packed schedule in the fall. Athletic Director John Brown offered his opinion on whether practices and games will be held under lights this spring.
“The last thing we want to do is have a spring night game that ruins potential future games,” he said. “If we're going to do it, we're going to do it right.'' Brown, who has been talking about on-field lighting for about 20 years, said a cautious approach is needed now that things are so close. This includes checking that the lighting actually works and that the lighting around the field and in the car park allows people to exit the venue safely.
No night games or practices have been scheduled yet, but there is flexibility, assuming the opposing team's athletic director agrees to move the game from day to night.
