The 31-year-old reality TV star will make his return in the ring this Friday night when he takes on fighter Ahmed Musa on Krypto Fight Night.
Fincham's last fight was 18 months ago in Dubai, when he boxed Anthony Taylor on an exhibition on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Desi bout.
The former amateur boxer revealed after the event that he struggled to lie low.
In an interview with Amber O'Donnell, he said: I went out partying pretty much for 18 months. I didn't have the right brain to deal with it, but I managed to deal with it in my own way.
“My family came to see me and they flew to Dubai to see me. Then I disappeared for a week. When you drink, you don't care about anyone but yourself. It's not that I'm a selfish person, but rather that I didn't respect myself.
Furthermore, he added: “I went into full self-destruction mode. At the time, I was already struggling with addiction and was just starting that battle. I had also been secretly struggling with addiction for several years.
“Before I knew it, I was missing, ruining everyone's holiday, and letting myself down. I went straight back into the cycle of getting up for that fight.”
Reflecting on his ordeal, Fincham added:
“And you have to think I won Britain's biggest TV show. And I put one of the actual hero cards in the box and I wasted all the money and now Then everything was happening unrelated.
“I was out every weekend, doing drugs, drinking, losing my job, losing my friends. I always relied on my family. But they also I think I had reached the point where I was tired of hearing it.
“Nobody believed what I said. I'm going to quit, I'm going to change now, but I never did.”
Fincham revealed that one of the turning points came after he was arrested on drug-driving charges in the summer of 2023.
“I was arrested last August.” “Then I got a suspended sentence and was given 18 months of probation. I said enough is enough. And… This was all due to drinks and substances I shouldn't have taken. All of this was my own fault.”
The Love Island winner was able to get back on track through sport.
He said: “Going back to boxing, it's the only thing that has helped me. It helps me stay grounded and live healthy.
“When you're in a boxing gym, all the people want you to be is the best version of yourself. It's amazing. Of course there's some competition and stuff, but it's a healthy environment.”
Fincham is now looking forward to his long-awaited return to the ring. The reality TV star is no stranger to the squared circle having won 18 of his 26 amateur bouts at Eltham ABC.
