Toms River-based Phoenix Elite Field Hockey Club's 19-and-under field hockey team finished 5-0 and placed first in its pool at the Shooting Stars Jamboree National College Showcase held in Milford, Del., last weekend. It became.
The team, made up of players from Central Regional, Southern Regional, Toms River High School South, Rancocas Valley and Washington Township high schools, outscored its opponents 23-3. Both total points and goal difference were the highest among the 46 teams participating in the tournament.
The five games, played over a 24-hour period, were against teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Michigan.
“We couldn't be more proud of this group of young women. They showed great teamwork, confidence and skill throughout the tournament,” Phoenix Elite co-owners Robin Meany and Laurie Temple said. he said in a statement. “Their play was great – probably the best I've ever seen from this group. It was an incredible outing for the seniors. Very well deserved.”
All eight seniors on the team plan to play field hockey at the collegiate level this fall, Meany and Temple said.
