at the Avis Alaska Sports Complex on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus. The community is buzzing about the possibility of the Seawolves getting a new and improved home. Some players are having fun with this idea.
“From a Division I, hockey, Division I facility standpoint, I think this is a necessary upgrade to it,” says Connor Cole, a forward on the UAA hockey team.
Exactly four years ago, the hockey program was discontinued. A community board raised $3 million to revive the program. This season marked the first time in the last five years that the Seawolves won the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup 4-2.

Arena wants to offer something for everyone in the community.
“What we're really excited about is not only that we can install a performance ice arena in addition to the ice that we have now, so we have two sheets of ice here on campus. Can I participate in intramural and fitness activities?'' Buchhold said.
“It's going to bring a lot of the Anchorage community to campus, which is always a good thing,” UAA ski coach Sparky Anderson said.
And there is one potential amenity for the new ice rink. More seats for fans. Up to 3000 additional seats.
The arena comes with a hefty price tag of $30 million to $60 million. The school is exploring options to pay for the use of the arena.
We received a lot of feedback from community members and students.
“It’s interesting because if we were to build a new facility, that space could potentially be used for something like a student gym,” said Dania Glaser, a third-year student at UAA.
Terry Carney explained, “Obviously the biggest concern is who's coming and how much they're willing to pay.”
Currently, UAA is in the consulting phase of potential development.
