Green River – The Green River Wolves soccer team clashed with the Lander Valley High School Tigers on Tuesday in a close game with each game decided by one goal. Unfortunately, the Lady Wolves fell short, 4-3, but the boys team won their second straight game, 2-1, in overtime.
The Green River boys boast an undefeated record through three conference games and a 5-1 overall record entering the game, while Lander holds a 4-1 conference record and a 4-2 overall record. I did.
The score remained deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime, with both teams showing tenacious defense. Lander broke the deadlock in the 50th minute and took a 1-0 advantage. Green River retaliated with a goal courtesy of Max Hintz's California toss, tying the score at 1-1 with 18 minutes remaining. Despite subsequent efforts, neither team was able to change the score, leading to a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, GRHS defeated Lander 4-3 with successful shots from Axel McKinnon, Idzik Arellano, Aiden Morris and Braxton Doak, giving GRHS a 2-1 victory.

In the women's matchup that preceded the men's game, GRHS, which has a conference record of 2-1 and an overall record of 4-2, faced an undefeated Lander team with an overall record of 5-1 in conference play.
Lady Wolves' Isa Basco found the net twice within the first 20 minutes, giving the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead. However, Lander quickly fought back and cut the lead to 2-1 by halftime. In the second half, Lander jumped into the lead with two goals within the first 15 minutes, claiming a 3-2 advantage. They extended their lead with another point, making it 4-2 with 16 minutes remaining. Vasco scored from a free kick late in the game to make the score 4-3, but the Lady Wolves fell short and ended the game with a 4-3 loss.
With a current 4-3 overall record and 2-2 conference standings, the Lady Wolves maintain a prominent position in the latest 3A rankings of the wyopreps.com Coaches and Media Football Poll, taking fourth place. I am. Meanwhile, Lander moved up to second place.
On the boys side, Green River, which boasts a perfect record of 6-1 overall and 4-0 in conference, secured third place with one first-place vote in the latest poll. Lander is unranked.
