Devin Haney claims he gained experience and learned from last year's fight with former three-division world champion Vasily Lomachenko, which will help him against opponent Ryan Garcia this Saturday night in New York. right.
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) says he has grown from his highly controversial fight with Lomachenko a year ago, where fans considered him gifted by the Nevada referee.
Is winning Prograis a sign of progress?
Since that fight, Haney defeated 35-year-old Regis Prograis by 12-round decision last December, which he feels is proof that he has improved his game.
It's hard to give Haney much credit for his win over Prograis, a New Orleans native. Considering Haney's controversial 12-round split decision victory over second-division fighter Danielito Solilla last June.
“I've gained so much experience,” Devin Haney told talkSPORT about last year's win over Vasily Lomachenko, which many fans felt was a loss. “I added my Roma experience to my own.
“In the next battle [against WBC light welterweight champion Regis Prograis last December]I saw how good I was in the next fight,” Haney said.
The real test is now
Haney would need to fight a better opponent than Ryan Garcia or Regis Prograis for him to say he's improved from his fight with Lomachenko, who is much bigger than him.
If Haney can learn from his fight with Lomachenko and grow by fighting them, the fighters will prove it 100%.

Haney is a 165-pounder, so he should be open to fighting at welterweight or junior middleweight, along with guys in the 140- and 135-pound classes.
If he gets as big as Haney and gets down to 140, he should be ready to fight four-division fighters, like a modern-day Henry Armstrong. Otherwise, you cannot call yourself the best, you are just a fake who mouths the words of being the best.
“I'm glad we learned from that game and were able to move forward with a win,” Haney said.
For Haney to prove his growth in his career, he needs to fight the best fighters, instead of just picking the fighters he can beat like he has in the past.
