George Kambosos Jr. picked Devin Haney this Saturday to retain his WBC light welterweight title with a win over Ryan Garcia on April 20th in Brooklyn, New York.
Kambosos, a former unified lightweight champion, lost twice to Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) in 2022, but doesn't see a path to victory for Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs). Kambosos feels Ryan isn't as focused as Haney and thinks that's making a difference.
Ryan, 25, has power and speed, but he seems focused on enjoying the newfound wealth he acquired last year after making a ton of money fighting Gervonta Davis.
Like many people his age, it would be hard to keep working hard if you knew you had enough money to live in luxury for the rest of your life. That may explain why Ryan doesn't seem to be as active in this fight as he was before he got rich.
Haney's concentration and improvement
“I don't think he's going to win this fight. I think Devin is getting better and better and he's going to be too good for him,” George Kambosos Jr. said on the FightHubTV YouTube channel. , has named Devin Haney as the candidate to defeat Ryan Garcia this Saturday.
Ryan has a chance to win as a puncher, but he will need to apply pressure like Gervonta Davis did in sparring to land Haney. Because he's not one to stay in the pocket. Haney throws a single shot and retreats.
As you move forward, he either backs away or moves quickly to clinch. It's a passive way of fighting, but he finds it effective. The reason Haney doesn't have a large fan base has to do with his negative style.
It worked for him, but didn't generate much interest. Haney's father, Bill Haney, is his spokesperson, doing all the talking on his behalf and creating interest in his fights by being a troll.
“While Ryan was talking about who killed Tupace, Devin was very focused, focused, in great shape, and he knows what it did.” What Ryan Says I agree with some. Devin Haney would win, but I don't see any way Ryan would win,” Kambosos said.
Kambosos recognizes Garcia's strengths
Ryan is a tough guy. I saw him get beat by Luke Campbell. he stood up. Gervonta Davis got him,” Kambosos Jr. said.
“The first time he got up. The second time was a body shot. He couldn't get up. Is there a chance he'll stop? Yes, but we'll have to wait and see.”
Haney doesn't have the power and is too focused on not getting hit, so you won't be able to stop him. Haney's only chance of being knocked out would be to stay in the pocket and let go of his hand. He won't do that because it's too risky to stand in front of Ryan, who can punch.
“We're two different types of fighters. Ryan is a bigger guy, so that could be a factor. Devin had the right size for him. Devin got bigger. Ryan has that size as well. That could be a factor. He also has tremendous speed,” Kambosos said.
“The thing about Devin is he makes you fight your own battles. Ryan will probably see his speed and size,” Kambosos Jr. said.
