Brian Ortega responded to a call from former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling.
Ortega (16-3 MMA) is a former featherweight title challenger, coming off a three-round submission victory over Yair Rodriguez (19-5 MMA) at UFC Mexico City in February of this year.
Sterling (24-4 MMA) made his featherweight debut at UFC 300 this past weekend, defeating Calvin Kattar (23-8 MMA) by unanimous decision.
In the post-match press conference, Aljamain Sterling called Brian Ortega this.
“Give me the next best guy. I welcome Brian Ortega with all due respect. He's a guy I once trained with, we have the same management, there's no bad pedigree or anything like that.'' We're both just chasing the same thing. It's not like he's my main training partner. I'm a guy like him. I think I won, and I can't deny it.”
Continuing, the 34-year-old said:
“I felt a little down on myself with this performance, because if you want to beat a guy like Ilia, you have to be able to finish a guy like Cathal. He has something to protect on the ground. I was a little sad about it, even though I was well prepared. I thought, 'If I can't do certain things to him, how on earth am I going to do anything to a guy like that? ” If I wanted to challenge for the world title again. That's how I see things. ”
Brian Ortega said,X'said:
I am aware of the callouts and options. It's time for my manager to do his job.
