Bemidji, Minnesota – Former Bemidji State University fifth-year defenseman, two-time captain. Kyle Loft The club announced Monday afternoon that he has signed an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) to play for the Texas Stars, an American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars.
Loft, a native of Mankato, Minn., was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defenseman of the Year, Defensive Defensiveman of the Year, All-CCHA First Team selection, CCHA Scholar-Athlete and All-Academic Team selection. This season, he was named CCHA Defenseman of the Week four times and CCAH Defenseman of the Month twice.
Despite missing six games due to injury, Loft led all defensemen in the league in scoring with 28 points (6g-22a) in 32 games. His 0.88 points per game average was seventh and 10th among all CCHA skaters.th He had the highest grade of all Division I defensemen. He finished second to his teammates among all his skaters in the league with a plus/minus rating of +17. Adam Flamanhad 69 shots, three power-play goals, 14 penalty minutes, and 53 blocked shots.
At the end of his collegiate career, Loft became the second-most played player in BSU history with 169 appearances, the most by a Bemidji State defensive player. He recorded his 53 points (15g-38a) in his five-year career, six power-play goals, three game-winning goals, and was a career +31 skater. He is the eighth highest scoring defenseman in BSU DI history with 37 points.th whole.
Loft will be based in Cedar Park, Texas, home of the Texas Stars, and will begin skating with the team immediately. The Stars will finish the regular season against the Manitoba Moose on Friday and Saturday at the HEB Center in Cedar Park. The Stars have already qualified for the Calder Cup playoffs, which begin at the end of the regular season.
