Jacqueline Amorim's entry into martial arts
Jacqueline “Jack” Amorim grew up in Amazonas, within the state of Manaus, Brazil. Her father was also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, and she admired Royce Gracie and started training under his influence.
When Jack was born, her father had to give up training for work, but he still loved Jiu-Jitsu. When Amorim turned six years old, her father enrolled her in ASLE Academy.
This was the same academy where BJJ legends like Jacare Souza and Aly Farias began their BJJ journeys. ASLE also offers judo and freestyle wrestling programs, which Jack also participated in.
She was coached by some of the world's best grapplers, including Jacare, Arsenor Alves, and Enrique Machado.
Jack's Grappling BJJ Career
As a teenager, Jack became very dedicated to freestyle wrestling training and dreamed of making the Olympic team. Amorim focused on freestyle wrestling for over four years and formed the Brazilian cadet team.
At the same time, Amorim was also a serious Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor. At the age of 14, she switched academies and began training her extensively under Mestre Pina.
Under Pina, Jack won every major Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu championship from purple belt to brown belt. She is a two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion as a purple belt and a one-time No Gi World Champion as a purple belt and brown belt.
Amorim was promoted to black belt in 2015 and then began competing as a professional black belt for two years. In order to compete in more IBJJF tournaments, she and her husband traveled to the United States to train with the legendary Leo Vieira.
As a professional grappler, Jacqueline took 2nd place at the 2016 No-Gi Worlds and 3rd place at the 2017 BJJ Worlds.
Amorim's early MMA career
After achieving some success as a professional grappler, Jacqueline Amorim transitioned to MMA. From 2017 until her 2020, she worked on striking to prepare for her potential MMA career.
Jack made his amateur MMA debut in 2020 at Mr. Cage 42 in his home state of Amazonas. In front of his friends and family, Jacqueline's debut was a success with a first round armbar victory.
Less than a month later, Jack won his pro debut with an arm triangle and subsequently signed with LFA. At LFA he continued to showcase his skills to the world.
She won her LFA debut by rear-naked choke in just 33 seconds, followed by a 10-second KO victory. Amorim followed up that KO with two more first-round submission wins to push her record to 5-0.
After racking up five impressive wins, the UFC called Jack and invited her to compete in the world's largest MMA organization.
Jacqueline Amorim's current UFC participation status
At 5-0, Amorim was expected to join the UFC. At this time, she began full-time training with American Her Top Her Team to take her skills to her new level.
Unfortunately, Jack's UFC debut against Sam Hughes didn't go as she hoped. Whether it was the nerves of Amorim's debut or just an off night, his opponent controlled the match and won the decision.
After losing in his UFC debut, Amorim is able to back up better than ever and prove he wasn't all hype. In her second UFC fight against Montserrat Conejo Ruiz, Jacqueline controlled her opponent and won by TKO in the third round.
In his third UFC fight against Cory McKenna, Amorim looked like he was back to full form. The former BJJ champion scored a quick armbar victory in the first round, boosting his professional record to 8-1.
Jack's fighting style
Jacqueline Amorim has world-class grappling ability, as demonstrated in nearly all of her wins. As a professional fighter, Amorim currently boasts an impressive submission rate of 75% in his matches.
All of her wins have come via finishes, as she currently has six wins by submission and two by strikes. She has shown herself to be one of the most dangerous strawweight fighters on the planet.
If Amorim continues to develop her striking ability, she could become one of the most well-rounded fighters in the strawweight division.
What's next for Jacqueline Amorim?
Jacqueline Amorim is currently 8-1 as a professional fighter and 2-1 in the UFC. She is one of the most promising strawweight fighters with the potential to make great strides in her career.
Jack aims to move up the rankings and break into the top 15 by the end of the year. Don't be surprised if Amorim enters title contention in the next few years.
