Dana White might want to talk to the “co-leaders” of MMA.
After the historic UFC 300 card attended by 20,067 fans, the UFC CEO spent most of his post-fight press conference until someone made the unfortunate decision to mention the name “Bellator” at him. An incredible night of action was spent celebrating. The topic came up while discussing the possibility of his UFC card in Hawaii, but White called it off due to infrastructure issues that prevented the promotion's team from physically being there.
When a reporter mentioned that Bellator previously had a card in Hawaii, White scoffed at the remark and joked that the organization, now owned by the PFL, could probably “have extramarital matches in parking lots.” So White noted that PFL actually promoted the card in Las Vegas last Friday night, a fact he said he only heard about at the last minute.
“You know 'PFL-ator' was here on Friday?” White said, merging PFL and Bellator into one name. “Did anyone know about that? I didn't know until Friday.”
The PFL 2 card took place at The Theater at Virgin Hotels with headline events for light heavyweight and lightweight.
Although White promised he wasn't trying to take unnecessary shots at his tournament, he couldn't resist mentioning promotional emails from the PFL in an attempt to increase ticket sales.
“They were selling buy two tickets, get two free,” White said. “I'm not blaming them. That's a fact. They put out a memo, buy two get two free. If you put out a memo like that, you're going to have a bad week. There were more people in my fucking dressing room tonight than there were at the game.”
To be fair, PFL is actually offering a “Buy 2 Tickets, Get 2 Free” offer for the upcoming card in Chicago, scheduled for Friday, April 19th, and not for the event that just took place in Las Vegas last week. ” was sent out in a promotional email.
The April 19 card will be held at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
Either way, White couldn't help but note the ticket sales struggles, which seem to indicate whether the promotion is prepared to offer such deals for any event. UFC 300 certainly didn't face those problems after earning his $16.5 million gate, the third highest in company history.
