GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Midlothian Panthers (25-2-3) defeated the powerhouse Frisco Wakeland Wolverines on Saturday to win the first 5A boys soccer state title.
The Panthers won 3-1 in the state championship game Saturday at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex in central Texas, where all Texas high school soccer state championships (boys and girls) were played. Frisco Wakeland took the lead in the 20th minute, but Midlothian tied the score just before halftime.
Two second-half goals ended the Wolverines' hopes of winning the title.
This season marked Midlothian's first appearance in the UIL state tournament. It was Frisco Wakeland's ninth appearance. Frisco Wakeland had won two of the previous three state championships heading into Saturday's game (Frisco Lone Star won the 5A title in 2023).

This victory capped off a great season in which the Panthers lost only two games all season. In mid-January, they lost consecutive games to Arlington Heights and VR Eaton. Since then, the Panthers have had his 23-game unbeaten streak en route to their first state championship.
Midlothian graduates eight seniors from the team and returns 14 players (two freshmen, four sophomores and eight juniors).
