Trainer Derek 'Bosie' Ennis is delighted with his son Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, who has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom to fight for Eddie Hearn's company.
inactive blues
Bosey believes Matchroom will keep him busy getting Boots back in the ring and allowing him to fight as often as he has so far this year. Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs), 26, hasn't fought since stopping Roiman Villa in 10 rounds last July.
Boots was supposed to have fought twice already since then, but with Showtime pulling out of boxing due to busy schedules and PBC signing a new deal with Amazon Prime Video with limited dates, he was the first to fight. It was clear that we needed to move on.
Bossie looks at all the cards Matchroom issues almost every week and hopes they will keep the boot active. It may not be so easy. Many of the cards Matchroom lists are located in the UK rather than the US. That's a problem.
Boots Ennis can certainly compete in England, but that won't help him become a star in America. It would be pointless for Hearn to match Boots against a British fighter, as his popularity would not increase in America.
We saw how Hearn only used British players when he promoted Demetrius Andrade, but that didn't help him become a big name.
They will still need to pay him well and find a candidate willing to fight him. That might be the hardest thing to do because he is considered the best at 147 years old. No disrespect to Terrence Crawford, but Boots is a 147-year-old guy now and there aren't many candidates willing to fight him unless he's getting paid well.
Bossy's vision
“I think this is the right place because it moves fighters,” trainer Bosie Ennis said on YSM Sports Media's YouTube channel of his son Boots' signing with Matchroom Boxing.
They compete like they have a show every other week,” Bosie continued. “So, that’s what we strive for…If you want to be great, you have to stay busy.
“You can't just take one fight a year or something like that and rest. If you only fight once a year, you won't be able to do anything, your timing will be off, and everything will be messed up.”
