The fight between undefeated David Morrell and light heavyweight challenger Radovoje Karadzic is reportedly set to take place in June.
Morrell eyes bigger fights at 175
boxing voice report Morrell vs. Karadzic was said to have concluded in June. This will allow 26-year-old Cuban talent Morel (10-0, 9 KOs) to reach 175 and continue chasing David Benavidez for a bigger payday.
The light heavyweight division is currently in the spotlight, with fighters moving up in the 168-pound division to capitalize on Saudi Arabia's interest in the division.
Staying at 168 is a dead end for many fighters. Unless he's blessed like the flawed Jaime Munguia got a money fight with Canelo Alvarez, he doesn't deserve it in any way, shape or form, aside from being a fighter. Easy mark.
Possibility of winning the undisputed title
For Morel, this is a smart move. Because he was never expected to face Canelo, the highly selective and undisputed super middleweight champion, and fighters like Edgar Berlanga, Jermall Charlo, and Caleb Plant are against him. This is because he shows little interest in fighting.
Upon reaching 175, Morel will have the chance to fight the winner of the match between IBF/WBC/WBO light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and WBA belt holder Dmitry Bivol for the undisputed championship. If you can, you will be in a position to win a large amount of money.
Karadzic: A good opponent
The 32-year-old Serbian-born Karadzic (29-2, 21 KOs) is ranked No. 6 in the WBA and No. 8 in the WBC, and has lost his last five fights against lower-level opponents since losing in five rounds to Artur Beterbiev in 2019. He has won the match. 2019.
Karadzic has good power and an aggressive, action-packed fighting style that should make for an interesting fight against the powerful Morel.
Morell will need to compete in several rounds as he has only fought three rounds in the past two years starting in 2022. He's not active and is knocking everyone out too quickly. Morel's past two fights have seen him stop Senna Agbeko in two rounds and Falcao Yamaguchi in one round.
If Morrell stays at 175, he will have better fighting options than staying at 168 and being shunned by top fighters like Canelo, Plant, Berlanga and Charlo. Unfortunately, one of the issues that will continue to plague Morell is the rarity of his games.
Since he's a PBC fighter and doesn't have many dates available on the new Amazon Prime Video platform, Morrell may not have many fights and remain on the sidelines.
