(Reuters) – Wrexham AFC could seal promotion for the second year in a row if the result on Saturday is the latest thrilling chapter in the Welsh team's Hollywood saga.
Wrexham need five points from their remaining three games to secure promotion to League One and a return to English football's third tier for the first time since 2004-05.
They have never been promoted in consecutive seasons in their 159-year history, and if they achieve this feat it would be a dream come true for owners and Hollywood A-list actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who play It would be a great script.
Wrexham, who sit second in the table, must beat visiting bottom-of-the-table Forest Green Rovers on Saturday and must beat MK Dons, who host Mansfield Town, and Gillingham to seal promotion. I hope Barrow doesn't win when they visit.
“Our aim is to focus on the game and what we need to do,” Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson told the BBC. “We have no control over anything externally; our destiny is ultimately in our own hands.
“We are preparing to play as well as we can over the weekend and see if we do enough to pick up a point against a Forest Green team who are obviously fighting for their lives.
“We're going to win the game and see what happens at the end. No matter what happens elsewhere, we have to go and get the three points.”
Wrexham, who won the National League last season with a record 111 points and wrote the script for their fairytale return to the EFL, will be joining the documentary Welcome, which chronicles the club's rise since its takeover by Reynolds and McElhenny.・To Wrexham”, he gained worldwide acclaim.
During Wrexham's 4-1 win over Crawley Town on Tuesday, Reynolds posted a photo of himself on social media watching the game on a giant screen on a movie set, writing: “Watching @wrexham_afc at work: A new level has been unlocked.”
