Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Megan Duffy announced her first hire Thursday, naming Sharney Zoll-Norman as assistant coach.
If Zol Norman's name sounds familiar, she is a former star point guard at the University of Virginia. From 2004 to her 2008. Zoll-Norman played at UVA, scoring over 1,000 points and starting every game during her four-year career. Zoll-Norman became the only woman in ACC history to record 200 or more assists in three consecutive seasons with the Wahoos.
Zol Norman also broke legendary Dawn Staley's school and ACC career assist records during her time in Charlottesville.
After his college career ended, Zoll-Norman was selected by the Los Angeles Sparks with the 29th overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft. She was waived and signed with the Minnesota Lynx. Zoll-Norman went overseas after Minnesota released her, and she enjoyed a five-year return before she returned to the WNBA with the Chicago Sky in 2013.
Zol Norman began his coaching career at Rhode Island, where he spent three seasons before transferring to Penn State. She spent her past two seasons with the Nittany Lions until Duffy came calling.
Zol Norman, like Duffy, is a former point guard who has helped develop great guards during his young coaching career.
Welcome to Virginia Tech, Coach Zol Norman.
