MANILA, Philippines — Despite facing a younger fighter, Filipino mixed martial artist Godwin Rambayan is “100% ready” to face Singaporean opponent Sim Kai Xiong.
Rambayan and Xiong will face off on April 28 at the Combat Sports Karayan (KSK) MMA festival in Makati.
They will be fighting for the KSK MMA Championship.
Rambayan, 34, will face the 26-year-old Singaporean and said he is ready to put his undefeated record on the line in an MMA bout.
“I can't say that I'm 100% confident, but I can say that I'm 100% ready. He's younger, but I can say that with all his experience in the last two years with the Sambo national team. [will be an advantage]Especially since I competed in the Sambo World Championship last year,” he told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.
“I already fought a European champion at 71kg. Now I'm fighting at 62kg. So I'm ready to deliver long hits, whether it's striking or grappling,” he added.
Zion was an original member of Road to UFC Season 2 and a member of the UFC Performance Institute.
Despite this, Rambayan revealed that he believes his opponent is “not at a very high level” based on what he has seen in past matches.
“I had already seen him fight in a local promotion here in the Philippines in 2019, so I could already see how he fights.”
Rambayan vs. Shion is the main event of the KSK MMA Festival.
The fight card also includes a bout between Filipino MMA superstars Mark Striegle and Paige Alitao. Elorde Sandigon and Andriawan Dalmita. and Joemar Galaza and Robertson Avion.
