It seems to be an annual event. The University of Denver hockey team is fighting for another NCAA national championship after defeating Boston University 2-1 in the Frozen Four semifinals on Thursday in St. Paul, Minnesota.
tristan bros He scored his second overtime goal of the NCAA Tournament to help third-seeded DU defeat second-seeded BU. The championship game will be played Saturday at 4pm (Montana time). Denver will face the winner of the game between the University of Michigan and Boston College.
Denver last won a title in 2022 and is one of the most successful hockey teams in school history.
The Pioneers (31-9-3), playing in their 19th Frozen Four, will look to win the 10th national title in program history on Saturday. This will break the tie with the University of Michigan for the most in college hockey history.
Denver has lost just two games since the start of February and is 14-2-1 in its last 17 games.
BU senior Luke Touch took the lead at 7:45 of the first period with his 10th goal of the season. He stole the puck and made a shot-hand goal all by himself. It was BU's fourth shorthanded goal of the season and the first scored by a player other than Nick Zabane.
Boston College (28-10-2) is 19-1 on the season when leading after the first period.
Denver's Tristan Lemuir tied the score at 1-all with his second goal of the season. He beat BU goaltender Mathieu Caron and took advantage of a wide open slot.
Broz scored at 11:09 of overtime with a 3-2 lead from the top of the right circle and a wrist shot that went past Caron's pads. This was Broz's 40th goal of the season.
For Denver, Matt Davis, who made 25 consecutive starts in net, saved 33 shots.
The Pioneers won five games in a row against the Terriers, setting a record for the longest winning streak in the series. Denver won its first four games from 1960 to 1967, and Boston won four straight from 1990 to 1999.
It was the second straight “Frozen” game to go into overtime, since Quinnipiac won in overtime in last season's national championship game.
