Bhutan will send three male boxers to the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 25th.
Bhutan returned to boxing in the late 2000s and has competed in most of the Asian Boxing Championships since then. Several boxers reached the quarter-finals in previous years and the country is aiming for its first medal at the upcoming major championships.
Boxers born in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 will be eligible to compete in the U22 age group in Astana, Kazakhstan. Boxers born in 2006 and 2007 are eligible to participate in the youth generation group of this particular continental event.
Bhutan sent young players to Bangladesh's capital Dhaka for a training camp and friendly matches in February. The South Asian country then continued its preparations for the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in its home country.
Trashe Finso is the head coach of the national team and selected a top three team, including one youth talent, for the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships. He also led Team Bhutan in the inaugural tournament recently.cent World Olympic boxing qualifying event to be held at Busto Arsizio.
Migma Dorji will compete in the men's U22 minimum weight (48kg) in Astana, and the 22-year-old boxer is the latest addition to the team.
Kinley Phuntso easily won his double match in Bangladesh and the 19-year-old flyweight (51kg) boxer could be the ace of the next championship. Dechen Dorji is an 18-year-old talent from Bhutan in the Youth Lightweight (60kg) category who achieved a dominant victory in the Youth National Championships.
