PORTLAND, Ore. — Former University of Kansas and NBA lottery prospect Ben McLemore was charged Wednesday in Portland District Court with four sexual assault charges, including first-degree rape and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration. Both charges are A-level felonies, the highest charges. The sentence is 20 years in prison, according to Clackamas County (Oregon) Circuit Court documents. Bail for the first-degree rape charge is $500,000.
McLemore was also charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, both of which are high-level felonies that carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Mr. McLemore was arrested by Multnomah County Police on Wednesday and arraigned in Clackamas County Circuit Court at 2 p.m. His indictment is sealed, so details of the case are unknown.He is scheduled to appear again in Clackamas County Circuit Court on July 1 at 10 a.m.
McLemore, 31, last played in the NBA in 2022, when he averaged 10.2 points in 64 games with the Portland Trail Blazers.
McLemore, a 6-foot-3 guard known for his shooting touch, was selected seventh overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings. He played four seasons in Sacramento, then went on to play for Memphis, Houston, the Lakers and Portland. His best season was in 2014, his second year in the NBA, when he started all 82 games for the Kings and averaged 12.1 points. After the NBA, he signed a one-year contract with AEK Athens of the Greek League, but left after appearing in just seven games.
