When Dalvin Azuma Nelson Jr. entered the boxing world in 2017, he had hopes of becoming a world champion just like his father Azuma Nelson.
Seven years later, Azuma Nelson Jr. has given up on his boxing dreams to pursue another calling, his father has revealed.
“He realized that boxing wasn't for kids from wealthy families. It's a sport for hustlers and people who are less fortunate. It's not like I took a hit, so he I am not worried that he quit the sport. He was on the receiving end of it and realized that he could not bear the blow,” Azuma Nelson said on Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.
He further added, “I taught him boxing at an early age and he grew up with boxing, but later realized he could never box again.”
Dalvin's biggest fight was against Prosper Gizor on August 20, 2017 at Bukom Boxing Arena.
Hundreds of boxing fans packed the Bukom Boxing Arena in hopes of seeing the boxing professor's son display the same boxing skills as his father.
However, they were disappointed because Junior's performance that night was so underwhelming.
Dalvin started his three-round amateur lightweight bout against Prosper Gizor on a very positive note.
He landed some heavy punches, showed great defensive artistry, and was greeted with applause from the crowd.
However, the performance decreased in the second and third rounds. Gizor took over the match and gave a good explanation for himself.
He lashed out at the legend's son. He seemed to have no antidote to the relentless punches. At one point, Gizor knocked Dalvin down.
After a three-round fight, the judges scored the bout 2-1 in Azuma Nelson Jr.'s favor.
