Greene County high school soccer teams faced off against the Kuemper Catholic Knights on Tuesday, with games played in Carroll for the girls and Jefferson for the boys. In both cases the home team won.
Coach Carl Boehne's boys team improved to 5-0 with a 4-1 victory at Lindaska Field in Jefferson. The Rams were without three starters due to injuries and what school administrators described as “unfulfilled expectations.” Teagan Chislom had two goals with Nathan Bene and Brynley Ruzicka each scoring one goal. Bene and Blaise Schilling each had an assist. Goaltender Gabe Ebersole made three saves. The Rams led 2-0 at halftime and extended their lead to 4-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining before the Knights, 2-3 this season, scored. Coach Bene told Raccoon Valley Radio it wasn't the day the Rams had planned. Due to an unfortunate incident, the players were unable to participate. The players were a little mentally unwell as a result of this, but they fought with new formations and new ideas. It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done. Now we are dealing with a new reality for next week and preparing for some games on the road. ” Greene County will play Winterset on April 16 in Earlham.
Maribel Hernandez is the Rams women's head coach. Her team lost 10-0 to the Knights on Tuesday, a day after losing 10-0 to Panorama. Also, for the second night in a row, the Rams had just one shot on goal as they fell to 0-4 on the season and had scored just one goal thus far.
