It took five full rounds to get there, but Brendan Allen got his revenge.
“All In” defeated Chris Curtis in the main event of UFC Fight Night 240 on Saturday at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, winning a hard-fought split decision. With the win, Allen avenged his loss to Curtis in 2021 and extended his winning streak in the UFC to seven. Six of those fights were at 185 pounds. Allen may still have work to do to get his desired middleweight title shot, but he has moved up to replace Paulo Costa in the top 10 of the latest weight class rankings.
Elsewhere, a women's flyweight bout took place at the Professional Fighters League's season opener in San Antonio on Thursday night. Bellator champion Liz Carmouche improved her record to 3-0 with a three-round decision over Juliana Velasquez, while Tyra Santos overcame the underdog Ilara João with a first-round submission. Perhaps the biggest loser in this equation is former Bellator flyweight queen Velasquez, who hasn't won a fight since July 2021. She fell completely from the rankings, paving the way for 2023 PFL European Champion Dakota Ditcheva. Thursday — Placed 15th in the poll.
Finally, Norma Dumont successfully made the cut to 135 pounds and outclassed former title challenger Germaine de Randamie in a prelude to UFC Fight Night 240. De Randamie had been out of action for a long time, but she defeated “The Iron Lady.” That's still no small feat. With this win, Dumont moved up to No. 10 in the bantamweight rankings.
