Super lightweight Jonathan “Alta Gamma” Miniel (5-0, 5 KOs) stopped Jonathan “El Broc” Torres (4-1, 1 KO) three minutes into the first round. He won the vacant U.S. title in the main event. Thursday night was held at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama for Laguna Premium's Boxing Summer Fest card, which pits top local rising stars against their peers.
In the eight-round co-main event, featherweights Kadir Macias (3-0-1, 0 KOs) and Hibrahim Valdespino (3-0-1, 2 KOs) battle it out in an early fight of the year candidate. It ended in a split draw. . Valdespino overcame two knockdowns in the fourth round as a result of a powerful hook to the liver. The scores were 76-74, 74-76, 75-75.
In a clash of Panamanian prospects with similar records, flyweights Angel Bethancourt (5-0, 5 KOs) and Santos Villar (2-2, 1 KO) engaged in a dramatic exchange that saw referee Ivan Ballesteros made the decision to stop the fight at 2:32. Bethancourt won by TKO in the sixth and final round.
