Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty has told how Gordon Ramsay helped him recover from an injury and pulled him out of a “deep, dark hole”.
Peaty hit his lowest level in February last year when he pulled out of the pool where he was training in Loughborough and told his coach he couldn't continue.
The breaststroke standout was the first British swimmer to win gold in the 100m breaststroke at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, and boasted an unbeaten record from 2014 to 2022.
In 2022, she returned to the pool too soon after breaking her leg and suffered her first loss, which led to her splitting from partner Aliened Munro (mother of three-year-old son George Anderson).
The following year, he met model and influencer Holly Ramsay, 24, who is Gordon's 57-year-old daughter. Gordon is a famous TV chef and mentor who helped the 29-year-old recover.
Petey said Sunday Times: “He has an incredible amount of energy to be around and is a great guy to coach from.”
He says he has similar qualities to Ramsay, who rose to the top of the industry through his relentless pursuit of professionalism.
Inspired by Ramsey's calm, Peaty told the outlet he had changed his ways.
Ramsay's second eldest son, Holly, has also opened up about her own mental health struggles in the past. The 24-year-old was hospitalized after being sexually assaulted when she was 18, after which she was diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety and depression. Mental hospital.
Mr Peaty said Holly gave him “peace and stability” and the two bonded quickly. The swimmer even has the letter 'H' tattooed behind her ear in honor of their relationship.
The gold medal-winning swimmer describes the day she fell ill, leaving practice teary-eyed and doing something she had never done before: going to the store and buying a basket of chocolates. He revealed that he went to Follow a strict regime.
He told the magazine: “Many times I felt like a god. Now I felt like a complete failure who was letting everyone down.
“I achieved everything and achieved all my goals, but in the process I just kept raising the bar higher and higher. It got too much, so I started drinking. I felt numb for a while. It was good, but it was just the beginning of a downward spiral. Life lost its color, its fun, its joy.”
Peaty says finding a church and working with psychiatrist Steve Peters also helped her recover from burnout when her “dam finally broke.”
Since achieving his undefeated record from 2014 to 2022 by “seeing red,” he says he no longer gets emotional, and wonders when is the best moment to channel his anger into “real combat moments.” He added that he now knows what to choose.
Peaty will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics after setting the fastest time of the year in the 100m breaststroke at the British Swimming Championships and scoring a dramatic win.
If he wins gold this summer, he will join Michael Phelps as the only male swimmer to win gold in the same event at three Olympic Games.
