MANILA, Philippines – Vanessa Sarno moved closer to qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics by finishing first in Group B of her category at the International Weightlifting Federation World Cup in Phuket, Thailand, on Sunday.
Sarno lifted 110kg in the snatch, breaking her own Philippine record and breaking the national standard of 108kg set at last year's World Cup in Doha, Qatar.
After carrying 135kg in the women's 71kg clean and jerk, the Asian Championship silver medalist recorded a total of 245kg, maintaining her fifth place in the Olympic qualification rankings.
The IWF has not yet officially announced the athletes eligible to compete, but the top 10 athletes in the Sarno category will advance to the Summer Games to be held in the French capital in July.
