GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina completed its second intrasquad scrimmage of the spring inside Dowdy-Fichlen Stadium on Saturday morning.
This scrimmage was further preparation for the annual Purple Gold Spring Game, which will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 1 p.m.

Under sixth-year head coach Mike Houston, the Pirates worked on every phase of the game at every level – offense, defense and special teams – and held nearly 90 minutes of scrimmage. This practice, which was the 12th of this spring, was held under sunny skies and temperatures in the 60's.
“We had a great scrimmage today,” Houston said. “It was more of a full-ball game because we’re probably going into the game before the opener. Today we did all phases of kicking, worked on two-point conversions, a lot of situations happened.
“I thought the level of competition was higher this week than last week, and I like that. On both sides of the ball, I think we improved in a lot of areas on both sides of the ball. We still committed ourselves. We made some mistakes and we have to eliminate them, but sometimes that happens in the spring because we haven't practiced as much as we did in the fall. This kid's effort was great and there are a lot of things to improve on. So I was very happy with the second scrimmage.”
ECU will wrap up its final week of practice inside the Cliff Moore Practice Facility with practices Tuesday and Thursday before returning to Dowdy-Fichlen Stadium for the spring game. The 39th annual Pigskin Pig-Out, sponsored by Piggly Wiggly, is scheduled to take place April 12-13, 2024.
