Olympic medalist Brendan Hansen inducted into Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame
olympic medalist brendan hansen was announced this week as a member of the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2024.
Hansen, who grew up in Haverford and is a product of the Suburban Swim Club, had a distinguished career in the pool. At the University of Texas, he was a 16-time All-American, a 14-time NCAA champion, and swam in the Olympics three times. He won gold medals in the medley relay in 2004, 2008, and 2012. He won a silver medal in the men's 100m breaststroke and a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Eight years later, he won a bronze medal in the 100m chest in London.
Hansen is a 10-time world champion (six long course, four short course), out of a total of 13 world championship medals. He won five gold medals at the Pan Pacific Championships. He set his five world records, two of them in the 100m chest, two in the 200m, and also in the American medley relay. 6 were recorded.
Hansen is an inductee into the University of Texas Athletics Hall of Fame (2015), the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame (2015), and the International Swimming Hall of Fame (2021).
