Devin Haney's father Bill was not impressed with Isaac Pitbull Cruz's eighth-round knockout of WBA light welterweight champion Rolando Rory Romero.
Bill said the victory was expected and felt it was “only a matter of time” before Laurie lost. And when asked about Cruise's powers, he gave Cruise a backhanded compliment, saying, “If you have a jaw, you can knock someone out, even my daughter.”
“There's nothing to worry about,” Bill said of his son, Devin, about Pitbull (26-2-1, 18 KOs). It was clear that Bill was not satisfied with the tremendous praise Pitbull Cruise was receiving from fans and the media.
Haney did not receive the same praise after his previous two wins over Regis Prograis and Vasily Lomachenko. One reason for that is that Haney is a pure boxer with no power, and his past two fights have been lackluster.
no surprises here
Asked about his reaction to Isaac Pitbull Cruz's win over Rolando Lolly Romero last weekend, trainer Bill Haney told FightHype, “Well, he knew it was just a matter of time. We achieved results against our opponents.”
While Bill is correct in pointing out that Rory is not a fighter expected to hold the WBA title for long, you still have to admire Pitbull's apparent sharpness.
“Devin didn't put Rory on the list because we didn't see him that way. He used to have a lot to say. Isaac did what he had to do. He told Devin I certainly don't think anything of it,” Bill said.
Diss against Cruise's power
Bill was asked his thoughts on Pitbull Cruise's powers and replied, “My daughter is a big puncher as long as she has a strong jaw.” “Anyone. Only 5 pounds of pressure is required. Laurie, good luck in your future as a male stripper,” Bill said when asked if he had a message he would like to convey to Laurie.
