Head coach Mike Norvell met with the media after Thursday's practice and spoke about the team's progress and expectations for upcoming scrimmages.
“Going into our second scrimmage, I think we're in a really good position to see our players continue to compete. As we get into the spring, we want to see passion, we want to see fight, and we want to see strong players. 'I'm working on getting better every day,''' Norvell said. “And I think we're seeing that. But still, it's just a lot of the basic things that we need to work on to clean up.”
With so many question marks on the roster, transfer players such as quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, Earl Little Jr., wide receiver Malik Benson and running back Jaylin Lucas have no plans to join the Seminoles in 2024. There is an opportunity to fill holes on the roster with a number of freshmen. He said the second scrimmage will try to put the team in a reactive situation, as opposed to the first scrimmage, which had more scenarios set up.
“We're going to let them play a little bit more instead of just having set situations. We're going to put players in situations that aren't created as much, but more reactive to what happens. We're going to put it in context. So (it's) probably going to be quite a lot' views as well,” Nobel continued. “I'd like to see maybe 100 or so. If we can get a little bit more of that, we'll be there. It's just the guys going out and playing and executing and being better than they were a week ago.” ”
After the first scrimmage, Norvell thought it was a good opportunity to see where the team is at, but said the second scrimmage “could give us more insight as the Nos look towards the 2024 season.” Ta.
