comment: Gretna, the preseason No. 1 team, split during the offseason when Gretna East opened, and Gretna's 45-game winning streak over three seasons came to an end with a loss in the season opener to Omaha Marian. Gretna also lost to Millard West, but had strong wins over Omaha Skutt and Omaha Westside. With wins over Omaha Marian and Lincoln East, last year's state runner-up, Lincoln Southwest, is the new No. 1 school.

Gretna East coach Chase Hutchison is 47-0 and has never lost a game as a Gretna and Gretna East high school head coach. His ability will be put to the test next week in the Metro Conference Tournament, including a potential matchup against Gretna in the semifinals.
