Miles Johns (14-2, 1NC MMA, 5-2, 1NC UFC) is “back” in the win column after his win. cody gibson By unanimous decision at a UFC event held at the Apex in Las Vegas on March 23rd.
Had Johns won, the three-game winning streak would have continued. Dan Argueta The plan was not overturned by the Nevada Athletic Commission after Johns tested positive for Trinabol. After Johns' victory was overturned to a no contest, the committee changed its content standards, but this decision did not retroactively affect Johns' fight. A no-contest is sandwiched between the victory and Gibson. Vince Morales.
Johns, who came into the game with two weeks' notice, was focused on Gibson during training camp. He had weight to lose, cardio to do, and drills to perform to make his game plan a success. However, when he was ready, a wound appeared on his shoulder.
“I had something to prove,” Johns told MMASucka. “I feel like the last two years I've been through one thing after another. Maybe a little more than that. I went out there and got a clean win and I want to show people that I can step up right away. I was ready to show. Show people that no matter what happened in the last fight, it has nothing to do with who I am and what I'm about. Just momentum. I just wanted to get that back on my side. It should be there already. This should be my third straight win. Unfortunately, it's kind of clouded. I think it's all over again now.”
Johns gave himself a B grade for his win over Gibson. I felt he followed the game plan well.
“I think people were thinking maybe Gibson didn't put up his best fight,” he said. “If you look at my fights, garrett armfieldthe battle of [vs. Brad Katona] and trey ogdenthe battle of [vs. Kurt Holobaugh], all of these guys had some kind of momentum behind them going into battle. So was Brad Katona, so was Cody Gibson, so was Kurt Hollobaugh. We made those fights look pretty easy. So I think if you show the match simply, some people will think, “Oh, Brad wasn't in it, oh, Cody wasn't in it, oh, Kurt wasn't in it.'' But it was three guys with momentum that probably weren't there that night. ”
Johns attributed the marathon mixed martial arts trio's victories to the “little things” they did, like fakes, feints and level changes that allowed them to shut down their opponents.
Johns also feels his strength was the key to his victory over Gibson.
“He wanted nothing to do with it,” Johns said. “I had a hunch that it would happen. He usually goes to the front and fights a war there. But as you may have noticed in my battles, those wars don't actually happen. I think that's because when you hit people, it's a different ball game. They're not going to just come in and put pressure on me and start a war, because I can turn your lights out at any time. .”
Johns said the reason for the B grade was because his cardiorespiratory fitness was not up to standard.
“I wasn't throwing punches with as many combos as I thought I would. When I hurt him, I was just getting him out of danger a little bit, and I think it was because of my cardio. I lost 30 pounds in two and a half weeks. I didn't make excuses; I put up a fight. I think it was a little taxing on me. I didn’t have the gas tank to stop and shut him down and get him out of there. I think six weeks of camp would have definitely finished him off.”
Johns outmaneuvered Gibson, hitting power shots and controlling him with grapples.
“I felt like we were on different levels. The power was on a completely different level. Every time I hit him, he hurt, and when he hit me, he didn't really do anything. . I felt like I was in control and that I was getting through the battle.”
Johns said he wants to get one or two more wins before fighting a top-15 bantamweight.meanwhile Ricky Simon Although Johns is no longer ranked, he said he wants another win and then a match.
“I know I can fight Ricky Simon and I’m ready for that fight,” he said. “But there's a lot of guys that are sitting just outside of the rankings that are probably a little tougher than some of the guys inside the rankings. So I know I've got to pay my dues and what happens is… Let's see. If we get one or two more wins, I think we'll be fighting for numbers.”
Johns said he wants to fight Ayeman Zahavi next. Zahavi is on a four-game winning streak.
“I think he is one of the tough guys who is not in the rankings. I would like to have one more fight before he goes up in the rankings. I feel like he is getting much better with each fight. Ayeman Zahavi is on the list This is the person listed. Daniel Santos It's going to be good. “Willy Cat”, I think because he won [John] Castaneda And you must get it back by defeating him. Ricky Turcios I'm there.he was supposed to have a big fight Raul Rosas Jr. And it failed. He floats around the department. I think there are a lot of good matches for me. ”
