In its second season, Killington's town rink gave kids (and adults) a new way to play. A youth hockey club called the Killington Double Diamonds was also formed. Killington Double Diamonds Hockey Club finished its inaugural season undefeated with a 0-0 record, head coach Ara Derderian reported.
“We are very proud of this year's players and we hope to defend our title next year with additional local teams to compete against,” Derderian said. “I would like to thank assistant coaches Peter Dubois, Matt Bigelow, and Todd DiBiase for helping move the program forward, and Parks and Recreation Coordinator Griffin Van Neel for keeping the ice clean. Masu.”
Last winter was Killington Town's ice rink's first season, and the second season saw the number of children participating in the hockey program increase from five to 11. This program was held on Monday nights throughout the winter, as long as the rink was in skating condition. Children learn the basics of hockey and gain confidence in skating.
The hockey program will continue into the spring with an outdoor street hockey program on the Johnson Recreation Basketball Court. Please wait for a message from our Parks and Recreation team regarding the days this program will be held.
