The Old Dominion football team's homecoming game for next season will be Oct. 19 against Texas State University, ODU athletic director Dr. Wood Selig announced Tuesday.
The Monarchs' Nov. 16 game against James Madison will be a family weekend.
ODU and Texas State will meet on the gridiron for the first time.
Some of the events during Homecoming Week include the presentation of prestigious alumni awards on October 17th, and an alumni meet-and-greet and fireworks show at the ODU Sailing Center on October 18th. There will also be an alumni tailgate and NPHC alumni event on game day.
Homecoming game times will be announced within 12 days of the contest.
The JMU game will be a celebration for students and their families at ODU. A tailgate barbecue and pregame entertainment will also be part of the festivities.
- Coach Christopher Newport announced the 2024 football schedule on Tuesday. The Captains open their season on September 7th at Trine University in Angola, Indiana. CNU will have its home opener next Saturday against Johns Hopkins. Other home games will be against Dickinson (October 12), Rowan (October 19), William Patterson (November 2), and New Jersey (November 16).

ECHL exits Newfoundland
The ECHL Board of Directors has resolved to immediately suspend the membership of the Newfoundland Growlers for their failure to fulfill their obligations under the ECHL Bylaws.
According to a Sportsnet report, the Growlers' owner, Deacon Sports and Entertainment, was at odds with the city over payments to NHL affiliate Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Norfolk Admirals were scheduled to complete the regular season in Newfoundland on April 11, 13, and 14, but those games were canceled.
All players on Newfoundland's roster are unrestricted free agents, but ECHL teams may not sign more than one player from the free agent quota.

University of Texas at San Antonio guard Jordan Ivey-Curry has committed to Virginia Tech, according to multiple media reports.
The 6-3 junior averaged 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game this season. His 18.1 points average in Conference USA ranked fifth in the league.
East Tennessee State Guard decides to deploy to Hampton
East Tennessee State University guard Tyler Rice has committed to Hampton University and new head coach Ivan Thomas, he announced on social media on Tuesday.

Virginia Tech sweeps ACC honors
The Virginia Tech wrestling team earned individual ACC honors with national champion Caleb Henson named Wrestler of the Year, Thomas Stewart Jr. named Newcomer of the Year, and Tony Roby named Coach of the Year. He won all the honors.
Henson, a true freshman from Cartersville, Georgia, defeated Michigan State All-American and 2024 Olympian Austin Gomez in the 149-pound NCAA finals to become the second national champion in Hokies history. .
Stewart went 14-4 and won the ACC title, finishing seventh at the NCAAs and earning All-America honors.
Under Coach Roby, the Hokies finished seventh at the NCAA Championships and produced four All-Americans.

UVA closes Old Dominion
Joe Sabino and seven relief pitchers combined for two hits, Henry Ford had two hits and two RBIs, and No. 15 Virginia defeated Old Dominion 4-0 at DeSharune Park in Charlottesville on Tuesday night. I broke it.

Christopher Newport 12, Pfeiffer 2: Josh Reinhold and Lincoln Lubsen each had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs, and the Captains (16-6) won their fifth straight game.
