Former WBO featherweight champion LoBaci Ramirez will be on the undercard of WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez's title defense against Steve Clagett on June 29th at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida on ESPN. I decided to fight as
Dan Rafael reports that two-time Olympic gold medalist LoBachy (13-2, 8 KOs) has been added to the Lopez vs. Clagett card.
LoBaissy's opponent for that tournament is still unknown at this time, but he is a likely candidate to help LoBaissy regain his confidence after losing a 12-round majority decision to the stork-like 6-foot-1-inch Rafael Espinoza last December. There is a possibility that
The height, reach and high work rate of the undefeated 29-year-old Espinoza (24-0, 20 KOs) will be a nightmare for LoBasey, who is much shorter than 5 feet 5 inches tall and doesn't seem ready to handle the fighter. That size and volume that he had.
Espinoza isn't the biggest puncher, but his work rate in that fight was out of this world and more than the soft-looking LoBasey was ready for. LoBachy, who dropped Espinoza with perfect timing in the fifth round, initially looked like an easy win, but it was ruined when he failed to jump and finish his job.
In the 12th round, Espinoza unleashed a flurry of shots that left LoBachy on the canvas and nearly knocked him out. The loss was only the second of his career, and he quickly found himself in a situation where he couldn't afford to lose any more if he was to have a chance at redemption for another world title.
Top Rank would be wise to steer LoBachy away from a rematch with Espinoza, as the Mexican fighter's height and high output would make for a bad style matchup.
There are 126-year-old candidates like Bruce Carrington and Luis Alberto Lopez who are dangerous for Espinoza in terms of punching power, but not for Robeysey. He's more of a boxer, and doesn't have the pop of his punches to handle Espinoza's size and volume.
According to Rafael, Teofimo was presented with a list of options for his title defense on June 29th and chose the 34-year-old Clagett (38-7-2, 26 KOs) over those candidates. .
