Arch-rival Israel Adesanya teases a one-sided decision loss to mutual foe Sean Strickland in last year's title fight Down Under, and reigning middleweight kingpin Drycas du Plessis says: He appears to have accepted the possibility of defending his title at UFC 305 against City Kickboxing. A staple in Perth this August.
Du Plessis, the current undisputed middleweight champion, earned a close split decision victory over the aforementioned Strickland in the main event of the pair's title fight at UFC 297 in Canada in January.
Adesanya, who has been out of action since losing the title to Strickland in Sydney last September, has been calling for a bitter fight with du Plessis. Head coach Eugene Bearman admits his client would do so if a spot in the UFC 305 Championship came up. Definitely accept it.
“Israel will be fighting for the title next,” Bearman said. “I don't know the date. If you tell me the date, I'll take care of it. We'll make preparations and leave.”
“Israel is pretty adamant that he has to fight for the title,” Bearman explained. “It's not up to du Plessis. If that's the case, I wish Israel, as champions, had such an option as well. The truth is, he probably isn't.”
Doricas du Plessis hints at return to title fight at UFC 305
Providing an update on his first title defense later this year, South African du Plessis hinted at a UFC 305 title fight in Australia in the form of a long-awaited grudge match against Adesanya.
Doricas du Plessis posted on her official Instagram account, “Looks like someone wants to hit Oath again.'' “I'll take part. I don't want to fight the African king on my home soil either. It's a sign of good work for you again! #Stillnox #ProudSouthAfrica #AmazingPreparation #WorldChampion”
